You, along with leaders of organizations working to protect the San Gabriel Mountains, Wilderness Society Staff, elected officials, and members of the Obama Administration including Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar will meet in groups with an opportunity for you to share your voice and opinions about our parks and recreation areas, and their connection to our communities - from the San Gabriel Mountains to the Pacific Ocean.

The event is free and open to the public, but please register July 1 by sending an email to sun.nelly@epa.gov with your name, the name of the organization with which you are affiliated and your telephone number and email address.
You and other conservation supporters, Wilderness Society staff, and representatives from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Council on Environmental Quality, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Department of the Interior will be able to share ideas on how we can best protect Los Angeles' air, water, and open space. Opportunities to share your ideas in breakout groups along with presentations by senior White House and administration officials.

Round-Up 2010 in the Los Padres National Forest
Thank you for your interest in the California Wilderness Round-Up 2010, the sixth annual retreat for California’s wilderness staff, activists and volunteers.
The location is the Middle Santa Ynez Campground which is about an hour and 20 minutes from Santa Barbara. A detailed map and directions will be sent to you after you register.
The weekend will include hikes through the beautiful lands of the Southern Los Padres National Forest, tours of proposed wilderness areas, opportunities to network with wilderness advocates from around the state, and, of course, a nonstop celebration of all of our important conservation work around California.

Free Screening of New Ken Burns Film
CLAREMONT – The public is invited to attend a free screening of a new Ken Burns’ film “This is America,” which tells the story of the National Parks through the lens of a diverse cast of historical characters.(Invite:http://www.sangabrielmountains.org/docs/This_is_America_Invite.pdf)
The film will be shown Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:45) at the Broad Performance Space in the Broad Center at Pitzer College. The center is located near Platt Blvd. and Mills Ave. in Claremont. (http://www.pitzer.edu/about/map_quickreference.html)
This 45-minute film is a companion to Burns’ upcoming National Parks documentary, “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea” which debuts Sept. 27 nationwide on PBS.
Presentation of “This is America” is co-sponsored by KCET, Intercollegiate Media Studies of the Claremont Colleges and San Gabriel Mountains Forever. The film has only been seen in small screenings around the country; it can not yet be viewed online or on air.
San Gabriel Mountains Forever is working on long term preservation of the range: to add about 30,000 acres to three existing federal Wilderness areas and protect 46 miles of waterways with Wild and Scenic River protections. The group also supports the possible creation of a national recreation area.
San Gabriel Mountains Forever is a diverse partnership of local business owners, residents, faith and community leaders, recreation groups, health and social service organizations, and conservation groups who have united to preserve this important natural resource. Its partners include: California Wilderness Coalition, Campaign for America’s Wilderness, Friends of the River, Progressive Christians Uniting, Sierra Club and The Wilderness Society.
We have a lot to be proud of. After years of hard work by actvists, staff, and community leaders accross California, the Omnibus Public Land Management Act was signed into law on March 30. In order to thank our supporters and friends, we are holding celebrations across the state. Below you will find details about the events and links to our registration pages.
5th Annual Round Up, San Gabriel Mountains, May 29-31:
We will gather at the Sierra Club's Harwood Lodge on Mount Baldy, nestled in the rugged San Gabriel Mountains.
The weekend will include hikes through the beautiful forests of the San Gabriel Mountains, tours of potential and newly-created wilderness areas, opportunities to network with wilderness advocates from around the state, and, of course, a nonstop celebration of all of our work.
Eastern Sierra Celebration June 12-14:
The Eastern Sierra Celebration will be a special event in honor of the passage of the Eastern Sierra and Northern San Gabriel Wild Heritage Act, which designated 430,000 acres of wilderness, and two wild and scenic rivers in the Eastern Sierra, in addition to lands and rivers in the northern San Gabriel Mountains and the California desert.
The weekend will include hikes into many of the new wilderness areas in the Eastern Sierra including the new Owens River Headwaters Wilderness, the White Mountains and others. Saturday night we will have a special celebration with music, toasts, and more!
