San Gabriel Mountains
The San Gabriel Mountains campaign was launched in 2007 with a
goal of expanding recreational opportunities, wilderness areas,
and wild and scenic rivers in the Angeles National Forest and
the western portion of the San Bernardino National Forests.
Over 130 people attended Sierra Club events in recent months to
kick off the campaign and since then, hundreds of new volunteers
have joined the effort and helped gain the support of key
decision makers.
Volunteers have been learning about the potential wilderness
areas through hikes and have helped map boundaries, and removed
invasive plant species and user-created dams on the San Gabriel
River.
In 2008, the campaign is focused on gathering support from local
elected officials and decision makers as well as expanding the
base of citizen support.
